Feeling good!

Tonight I am 10 weeks and 3 days pregnant. According to the books my baby is about 1.5 inches long - or about the size of a kumquat. (Which makes me laugh because I grew up with a kumquat tree in my backyard... we never ate them, but had a good time throwing them at each other.) At week 10 my baby officially became a fetus; because I think it's a boy I've started calling it "Frank the Fetus." Hopefully that nickname doesn't stick around after the baby is born, although I think Fred the dog would love having a brother named after his former handle!

I have been feeling pretty awesome the past few days, and at first that freaked me out; to appease myself I got online and ordered a fetal heart rate monitor so that I can check on the baby whenever I want to. It should be here any day now. After ordering it I ran to the trusty internet to see if it was normal to feel better at week 10 and I found plenty of pregnancy references that say that because the fetus has officially taken over the production of hormones, many women feel better starting now. Whew!

Today was my first day back at work after a week and a half vacation and I was worried that I wouldn't be able to make it, but I survived! The kids were really awesome (and of course they had tons of baby and pregnancy questions to ask - my favorite: Are you going to have a water birth?) and the day flew by. On my way home I had enough energy to stop by the store, finish the laundry, start a fire, make a pizza (and actually want to eat it!) and wash dishes (oh, and get my car stuck in the driveway - sorry Tyler!). I hope that the miserable nauseous stage of pregnancy is gone for good now.

In Katie news, Andrew is doing really well - I got to Skype with the both of them for a few minutes tonight. I just can't wait to meet him in person in July!

  1. I like the kumquat comparison-- it really drives home the miracle of it all. Congratulations!

  2. Love that you ordered a fetal heart rate monitor! I didn't even know you could! I'll have to tell my sister-in-law about that!

Enjoy being pregnant and having strangers open doors for you (especially when you are 9 months pregnant!)
