Yesterday was my Mom's 55th birthday! My sister and her husband made her dinner and got a cake. I wish I could have been there to celebrate! HAPPY BIRTHDAY MAMA-JAMA!

A Slice on Slicing

I woke up on this second snow day thinking about slicing, and specifically, how I choose to read and comment on other writer's slices. (Part of the contest is to write each day, but another part is reading and commenting on at least five other slices each day.) It seems I have developed a pattern very similar to the way I choose books to read, and I wonder if other Slicers have different methods? After writing and posting my own slice, the first blogs I read tend to be the ones nearest my post. I click on a few links and read until I find something I really connect with. If nothing nearby seems tempting, I scan the titles of each entry looking for one that catches my eye. I find that if there isn't a title I don't end up reading that particular post. Again, I read several posts looking for one that I really like - then I comment. The last way I choose a slice is by author name. Nature vs. Nurture?

Debating nature vs. nurture with Tyler tonight. Curious what all you teachers think about the topic. Are children born with innate ability or are they made smart? Athletic or not-athletic? Musical or not-musical? And, should we set the same high expectations for all students, or do we adjust them based on what a student can actually do (and by that I mean keeping the expectations high, but high for Student A - which might be different from the high-level set for Student B). I've often heard the phrase "what is fair is not always equal" used in regard to classroom management, but I think it applies to our expectations as well. When teaching something like history, is the content or the skill most important to a "general" or below-level student? (For example, is it more important for a student to "i dentify the location of the critical events and major battles of the Civil War" or for them to be able to read a map?) Day 89: And We're Home!

Day 88 - Caroline starts to coo at herself in the mirror - so cute! With primary nurse Jaime on our last night! Family photo in the VIP room before leaving Caroline's outside the building! Is there a baby in that car? Did not even notice that she was in her car seat Snow leftover from the storm Someone is happy to be going home! Diaper change in the backseat Hi Uncle Matt! (Ty wouldn't let me leave the diaper on the doorstep) Almost home! I can't believe I'm home with my baby! Smiling at the sight of my clean garage - thanks Dennis! Sunset shot There were 3 deer in the field behind us when we went outside Loving the Rock-n-Play Sleeper Night-night Caroline! Yep - that's 19 cubic feet of breastmilk! And these are Caroline's meds and med supplies!!! That's it for tonight!
