Tyler met with the guy who had the shanty tonight and thought he seemed like a reasonable man; Tyler did not think he was responsible for stealing the shanty. The guy had put considerable work into improving the shanty and Ty said it looked really nice inside. After giving it some thought Tyler agreed to pay the guy for his time and materials... it's a bummer that this guy is losing something he invested so much time and money in, but we are happy to get it back. He is even delivering it to our house on Sunday...
Either way you slice it, the guy was in possesion of stolen property. If Ty doesn't think he's the one that stole it, let the police do their thing, find out who did for certain, and make THAT person pay for the improvements as restitution. The burden of proof is on this guy, and the financial responsibility is NOT on Tyler who also already made significant investment initially. It's crazy for Tyler to pay another penney. What do the police say about it?
ReplyDeleteWho's anonymous above? Sounds like they know what they're talking about. Crazy business!
ReplyDeleteToo bad you guys live a little too far - I'd watch your baby for you.

I'm glad Tyler has his shanty back. I like that traditional Vermont siding (a.k.a. Tyvek)!
ReplyDeleteHe's smart to settle it amicably with the other guy. Give the other guy the benefit of the doubt. Tyler has more important stuff to do in the next few months.
I wonder if Baby A will grow up to be an ice fisherman?
