Day 25

This morning we woke up pretty tired as our neighbors in David's House had an infant who cried all night and a cell phone that kept ringing for some odd reason. Luckily, they were only there one night! When we came in for rounds this morning the docs reported that Caroline has not pooped in the last 24 hours but they are not worried, instead they are thinking that she just hasn't had enough to eat yet to "make poop." The current theory is still that she had tummy issues because of the staph infection, not because of NEC or any other craziness, and that now that she has been treated with antibiotics (again) her tummy troubles should be gone. She started back on 5ml of milk yesterday at each feeding and that went up today at noon. She also got to try breastfeeding today for the first time since day 5! During rounds the docs also said that they would like to get Caroline home soon - maybe next week?!?! Today starts her 7-day A's &B's countdown since the caffeine has worn off, and since she hasn't had any issues in the past several days I suspect that won't be an issue again.

Tyler left to go home today since he starts work tomorrow. It will be good for him to get settled in at home and work before we head home, but we'll both still miss him tons... until Friday night. In the meantime I'll also get into a new solo routine here; I hope Caroline builds up to full feeds (and gains weight!) which would mean I'd need to be in the ICN all the time anyway.

Day 23 - Peek-a-Boo

Not Caroline... Odd car in the DHMC parking lot

Day 24 - more mirror time fun

Checking herself out!

And one last thing, congrats to my cousin Kim and her husband Andy who gave birth to their beautiful daughter Addison yesterday! August is a good month for babies!

  1. Sounds so promising Aimee. Glad to hear that Caroline is getting breast milk again.

So exciting to hear that the doctors are talking of bringing Caroline home. That is so hopeful!

I know it will be hard for you to have Tyler away this week, but he will be just a phone call away.

I think in one picture of Sweet Caroline, she looks like Tyler. I don't know what it is, perhaps the lips?

    Love, Aunt Lisa

  4. It must be so good for you to hear the doctors talk of letting her go home. I'm so glad things are going better. We'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers that things go well for the next week so she really can go home and meet her brother, Fred.
