We have had an exceptionally busy day today meeting with doctors, nurses, lactation consultants, hospital staff, etc. but are resting for a couple hours at Uncle Bobcat's apartment with his awesome girlfriend Kate before heading back to the hospital. Kate and Matty moved bedroom furniture to accommodate Tyler and I and set up a "pumping corner" for me in the living room complete with a recliner, light, and side-table. It's perfect! We are so lucky to be able to stay with family while going through this transition.
Speaking of thankful.... Tyler was going to go home tomorrow to take care of some things at the house, but we have some superheros in Derby who went to our house today and did everything on his To-Do list! Big thanks to Hugh, Lee Ann, and Jeanne... as well as to Alex, Nicole, Tom, Donna, and Pam. We are very lucky!
Early this morning we met with the team of neonatologists, nurses, and staff members who are taking care of Caroline. (They make daily rounds so we will get to see them every day for updates.) They said she is doing exactly as she should be for her age. The apnea and jaundice are very common for young babies, and her blood sugar remained stable today so we hope that that issue has been resolved. They said that if all goes well she can go home around the time she would be full term (anywhere from two weeks to eight weeks or longer). There are three things that need to happen: 1. no apnea issues for 7 days, 2. she needs to be able to complete full-feedings on her own, and 3. she needs to be able to maintain her body temperature. She got a lot of Kangaroo Care from Tyler and I today and she even did some breastfeeding all on her own! The docs said this too will shorten her stay at Dartmouth.
Yesterday Caroline had some more visitors:
 |
| Grampie meets his grand-daughter |
 |
| Caroline meets her Nana |
 |
| One of my favorite pics! |
 |
| Kangaroo Time with Mommy |
 |
| Eyes Open! |
 |
| Uncle Gabe sneaks a peak (and brings champagne!) |
I take it from this post that Aimee has been discharged from the hospital. Incredible recovery, Aimee!
ReplyDeleteSo glad that Matt and Kate have arranged a space for you and Tyler at Matt's apartment.
Sounds like Caroline is progressing nicely.
So glad she is getting such good care.

Ditto on what everyone else said. So lucky you have family nearby. Glad it's all going good! Bon courage with the breastfeeding, hope it continues to work!
ReplyDeleteShe's so beautiful and alert looking. She looks so strong and healthy, considering she came so early. Sounds like you both are getting lots of love and care. Glad things are going well. Congratulations Aimee and Tyler. Lovely name for her.
